Ration Book

Post-war rationing continued for several years while Britain’s peacetime economy recovered. A ration book was needed to buy basic commodities such as meat, eggs, cheese, sugar and tea. These were only available through certain approved retailers.

The names stamped inside this ration book show that meat was supplied by Lee, Butcher of Thirsk, while fats, cheese, bacon and sugar were supplied by Broughs Ltd, also of Thirsk.
