Letter from Winston Churchill

This handwritten letter was sent to a resident of Kepwick, a village near Thirsk. It states:

“I thank you sincerely for your very kind message to me which I have received and read with great pleasure.”

The letter bears the emblem of the House of Commons and the envelope is postmarked 1st October 1945. By that time, Winston Churchill had become the Leader of the Opposition following the general election in July. Despite his many responsibilities, he still found time to acknowledge an act of kindness with this brief but courteous reply.
