Child's Identity Card

Among the various types of identity cards in use during the war, there was one especially for children under 16 years old. The most obvious difference was the colour – a pale brown compared to the blue of a standard identity card.

Inside, a section states how long the card was valid for – until 1959 in this case. This particular card belonged to a boy living in Easingwold; however it was the responsibility of the parent or guardian to look after the card and produce it if required.

The signature of the parent or guardian would have been written on the back of the card, although it is absent on this example.
