Anti-gas certificate

As part of the overall preparations for war, some people were given formal training to deal with poison gas attacks. This certificate was awarded to Mr Thompson, a special constable who lived in Sowerby near Thirsk.

Training took place in Northallerton and consisted of six weekly lessons. The certificate is signed by the Chief Constable of the North Riding Constabulary, which organised the course.
